I just watched an interview with Antoinette Tuff, the hero who singlehandedly stopped a mass school shooting in Decatur, Georgia on Tuesday. The interview is must-see. It shows the transforming power of love and God’s grace.
It also shows the See-Feel-Act progression in vivid color, something I’ve been blogging about extensively over the past few weeks. I can’t help but to see it all over this interview. In the moment the suicidal and raging twenty-year-old gunman Michael Brandon Hill walked in the front office of the school, loaded with over five hundred rounds of ammunition, Antoinette chose to see him as a hurting person in need of help. She reached out to him, told him of her own struggles, and gave him hope.
Because she saw him this way, she was able to feel and act in a way that built rapport with him. Her love and wisdom saved his life, her life, and the lives of dozens of children.
